Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that loanee Timothy Weah could be at the club again next season after an impressive start to his temporary spell at Parkhead.

The Hoops took the eight-cap international from French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain until the end of the season in the January window and he has started brightly in Glasgow with three goals in six appearances across all competitions, only two of those outings coming in the starting XI.

Speaking of the teenager’s future, Rodgers confirmed he could be at Celtic Park next season, hinting at the possibility of extending his stay at the club on loan.

He told the Daily Record: “He’s 18, so depending on how that goes, there’s maybe a possibility of extending that but I don’t like to talk too much, it’s a wee bit disrespectful to the team we bring them from because what happens is there’s a headline out there that says: ‘We want to buy…’

“The relationship is good with PSG through Odsonne Edouard and some of the other players that we have spoken about to them, so let’s see how it goes and then we’ll review it with the club and him and his family at the end of it all.

“I am sure they will take him back next pre-season and have another look and they they will decide where his next stage is if it’s not there.”

Opinion

Weah has made an immediate impact at Celtic and so it is no surprise that Brendan Rodgers would be keen to keep him on for another season. The success of Odsonne Edouard led the Hoops to chase the American’s capture and he looks to be another top talent who has traded PSG for Parkhead. Another loan spell would give him an extended run playing first team football and considering the manner he has settled into life in Glasgow, he would probably welcome coming back over the summer. Of course it all depends on what PSG want to do with him but he is hardly going to be a senior star on his return and so a loan spell away once again makes sense for them as well. Exciting times for the Celtic faithful, who have been on their feet applauding what Weah has managed to do in his short time at the club. They will be hoping that he is around for a little while longer.
