Jamie Redknapp has claimed Brendan Rodgers would be the “perfect” fit for Leicester City after enhancing his reputation at Celtic.

Writing for the Daily Mail, the high-profile pundit hailed the transformation of Stuart Armstrong under Rodgers at Parkhead as proof of the northern Irishman’s ability to develop and improve players.

Redknapp highlighted how the ex-Liverpool boss can get far more out of Leicester’s squad than Claude Puel, who was sacked on Sunday.

“If Brendan Rodgers can be tempted to leave Celtic now, he can fire them back up the table,” Redknapp told the Mail. “Brendan has a track record of developing and improving players.

“Stuart Armstrong came on leaps and bounds after working with him at Celtic and earned a £7million move to Southampton.

“With a treble of trebles in sight, it will be difficult for Rodgers to leave Celtic. Whether he moves now or at the end of the season, Leicester is the perfect destination for him to return to England.”

OPINION

With Celtic eight points clear in the SPL after Sunday’s 4-1 home win over Motherwell, they are hitting their stride at just the right time domestically as they go all out for what would be a remarkable hat-trick of trebles. Celtic’s record in Europe under Rodgers has got progressively worse, and there has been little sign of progress in that arena, but, when it comes to the bread and butter of the league and domestic cups, he has the midas touch. Nine consecutive domestic wins mean only a slip-up in the Scottish Cup appears to be capable of stopping Rodgers hurtling to another treble. He is unlikely to walk away from the Glasgow giants now – that would be counter-productive and inadvisable – but Celtic face a tough task hanging on to him at the end of the season. While many fans would rail at their manager quitting for the Premier League’s 12th-placed side, his legacy at Celtic will be a magnificent one if he walks away with nine domestic trophies out of nine.
