Ray Parlour revealed that he thought it was amazing that Brendan Rodgers had given up the possibility of doing the treble treble to become manager of Leicester City.

The former Arsenal player described Rodgers’ reign as extremely successful while remarking on how surprised he was at the timing of the manager’s exit.

“Brendan has been extremely successful with Celtic and has given up a possible treble treble and it’s amazing to give that up,” said Parlour on talkSPORT (Thursday February 28th 17:54).

The Hoops are still in with a chance of winning their third successive treble this season, but the responsibility of it now falls on interim manager Neil Lennon.

OPINION

Rodgers consistently swept the board when it came to racking up domestic trophies in Celtic and it’s no surprise that Parlour only need two words to sum up the manager’s time at the club. It’s also understandable that Parlour is shocked that Rodgers would give up the chance to make it three treble-winning seasons in a row, as they really would have cemented his legacy at the club. Yet the manager clearly thought the managerial position at the Foxes clearly needed to be filled now rather than make them wait for the summer. It is very odd as Leicester City don’t really have much to play for in the second-half of the season and it would have made sense if Rodgers insisted on staying with the Hoops until the summer. However just as quickly as the manager packed his bags, the club need to get over his exit. The Hoops acted quickly to bring Lennon back to the club and the experienced manager should be capable of finishing the job Rodgers’ started.
