Davie Hay has drooled over new Celtic signing Timothy Weah, labelling him as a player who “looks the part” for the Hoops.

He says that he admires the freedom that the 18-year-old has been playing with since he arrived at Parkhead and thinks that his style of play suits Celtic down to the ground.

Hay adds that the pace that the young ace has brought to the team is the best thing that could have came out of the recent transfer window, and believes that his confidence will only increase with the more goals he gets under his belt.

“It is early days, of course, but Timothy Weah is a boy that looks so comfortable at Celtic that you could see him staying beyond May. Right now, he looks like such a good fit for Celtic – and Celtic looks like a good fit for him,” he said in his Evening Times column.

“He always looks bright whenever he is on the pitch. The boy’s confidence is clearly sky high and that I think he shows that when he is playing. He has a real nose for goal and I love the freedom that he plays with.

“Celtic are really suited to how he wants to play and I know that he is very young, but you would have to say that he is a boy who looks the part. He has brought pace to the team and for me that is the standout that I have seen since Celtic have come out of the winter transfer market.”

OPINION

Weah may only be 18-years-old, but the impact he is starting to make at Celtic despite his age is rather excellent. It was a huge risk to sign someone who is still so young and relatively unproven at a high level, but he has adapted to the playing style of the Scottish Premiership perfectly. It will be exciting to see how he develops over the course of the season, and when he starts getting more goals under his belt, he will really be a sight to witness. Johnstone is right – he does look the part, and considering he is only 18, this is quite the compliment for him to give. It will be great to see his confidence go up the more the term progresses, and if he can help the Hoops secure the title this season with his goals and his contribution, then he will be a firm fan favourite.
