COMMENTARY

After a nervy 30 minutes for Celtic against Motherwell, following the visitors’ controversial goal to make it 2-1 to the Hoops, Odsonne Edouard managed to settle the fans at Parkhead with a brilliant free kick in the 88th minute – his second goal of the game. His match winning display was heralded by the Celtic faithful on Twitter and understandably so, for he did much more than just stick the ball into the back of the net. His movement pulled the away side’s defence this way and that and his physical presence up front meant it was always a battle for them to try and stop the Bhoys from breaking through their rearguard efforts. Not only was he excellent in open play but his dead ball effort was a real moment of magic – the sort of impact you want from your star men when pressure is building. Having been missing for large parts of the season, the Hoops faithful will be absolutely delighted to see him back to his best – although you can imagine Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe might have something to say about the fans’ claims he is the best striker in Scotland. There is no doubt in the Bhoys’ minds though – Edouard is their hero and showed why he is so revered on Sunday afternoon.
