talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham has labelled Celtic captain Scott Brown ’embarrassing’ for the way he celebrated his late winner against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

The Scotland international was guilty of producing a rather enthusiastic response to his scrappy goal at Rugby Park, and Durham has launched an extraordinary attack on the Hoops skipper.

“Thursday night was a huge embarrassment for Celtic Football Club, and he [Brown] was part of that,” he told talkSPORT. “So I think to celebrate – over-celebrate – a scrappy, deflected winner at Kilmarnock in such a fashion is embarrassing just a few days after that performance against Valencia in Europe

“It is Celtic all over, it is classic Celtic. What Scott Brown did was… it just smells of Celtic. To go charging into the fans like you’ve done something special – I don’t think so.”

OPINION

This is a bit strong from Durham, isn’t it? That’s nothing new, though. talkSPORT have a lot of time to fill throughout the day and sooner or later somebody is going to say something purely to gain attention, and it appears that that is what Durham was doing here. Did he ever stop and think that maybe Brown’s jubilant reaction to scoring on Sunday was down to Thursday’s shocking display? That it was a release of emotion after falling short against the Spanish giants? That’s likely why Brown was so enthusiastic in his celebrations, because he realised that he and his team mates weren’t good enough on Thursday. To call somebody enjoying scoring a goal embarrassing is ironic in the extreme. And what Durham means by ‘classic Celtic’ only he knows. There was no need for this tirade and it speaks far more to Durham’s character than it does to Brown’s.
