Rangers could play a blinder in the summer transfer window if they sign attacking midfielder Jack Roles, who is reportedly set to leave Tottenham.

Football.London has reported that the 19-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and as it stands, there is nothing new on the table for the Cyprus Under-21 international.

It is understood that Roles has been training with the Spurs first team but the teenage attacker has been unable to impress Mauricio Pochettino enough to earn himself a senior debut.

It’s not like Roles has been struggling in Tottenham’s youth teams.

This season, the youngster has scored six goals and supplied six assists in 25 appearances across all competitions for Spurs’ youth teams.

He can play up front as a centre-forward, on the left wing or in the centre of the midfield, but Roles’ preferred position is as a No 10, behind a striker.

Rangers are currently lacking a quality No 10.

Josh Windass was moved on last summer but a similar type of player wasn’t signed to replace him and Roles, given his superb goal and assist record for Spurs’ Under-23s this season, could be a perfect fit for Steven Gerrard going into the 2018/19 season.

As Roles’ contract expires at the end of the season he would surely be available on a very low compensation fee that Rangers should be able to afford with ease.

It would definitely help to pick up young players from some of England’s top clubs with the view to either making a massive profit on them or throwing them straight into Gerrard’s first team.

Gerrard and director of football Mark Allen really need to get the feelers out now in a bid to sign Roles in the summer.

There will inevitably be a queue of clubs wanting to sign the London-born attacker.
