Rangers are in the hunt to sign Maritimo midfielder Josip Vukovic, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese news outlet claims that the Light Blues have become interested in the 26-year-old, even though he only joined Maritimo last summer on a free transfer.

The defensive midfielder has made 16 appearances in all competitions since joining the Liga NOS club.

Good move for Rangers?

Does Steven Gerrard really need to sign another central midfielder?

Steven Davis and Lassana Coulibaly are only on loan at Ibrox, but Davis could definitely join on a permanent basis in the summer and Glen Kamara has also recently been added to the squad in Govan.

Vukovic has enjoyed a solid debut season with Maritimo but it would surely be a risky move to sign him in the summer when the Gers have had players come from Portugal and failed in the last couple of years.

Likely to happen?

Even though Vukovic only signed for Maritimo last year, he could definitely be on the move.

Maritimo are hardly a big club and the midfield enforcer would surely find it hard to turn down Rangers if they came knocking.

However the summer is still a long way away and Mark Allen will surely have plenty of other targets between now and the end of the season.

It’s too soon to tell what will happen here.
