Steven Gerrard must axe Joe Worrall as part of three changes if he wants to name his best possible Rangers starting line-up for the Scottish Cup replay against Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

Worrall, 22, has been woeful for the Gers for pretty much the entirety of his loan spell in Scotland, and his spell as a mainstay must end this week for Killie’s visit to Ibrox.

Nikola Katic must replace the Nottingham Forest loanee, who has made 23 total appearances this term, in the heart of the defence as he and Connor Goldson have been the most solid of defensive partnerships when they have both been used together regularly.

If Gerrard wants to smash past Kilmarnock and progress in the Scottish Cup then he needs to start Wes Foderingham in goals after a superb display in the 0-0 draw against St Johnstone on Saturday.

Allan McGregor is suspended, so it’s a no-brainer to start the English shot-stopper behind a back-four of James Tavernier, Goldson, Worrall and Borna Barisic.

Ross McCrorie and Steven Davis must start in the midfield and if he is fit enough, Scott Arfield should replaced Glen Kamara, who hardly impressed against the Saints last week.

Ryan Kent and Daniel Candeias are easy picks on the wing while Alfredo Morelos must start up front as he is available.

Jermain Defoe is yet to really impress since joining the Light Blues so Morelos, who will be suspended against Hamilton this Sunday, should start up front as the lone striker to complete a starting line-up that should beat Steve Clarke’s Killie.
