Ian Holloway has heaped praise on Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, and has suggested that the he is overseeing a ‘special moment’ at Wolves.

Wanderers sit seventh in the Premier League table after a resounding 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday, and Holloway was keen to single out the boss for his role in this season’s success.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday (Sky Sports Premier League, Sunday February 3rd, 11.30am), he said: “I’m more than impressed. Nuno Espirito Santo is a fantastic man to start with, and a manager. What he’s managed to do with an awful lot of this team that were already there [has been great].

“Doherty’s been outstanding, moving Conor Coady back in as a sweeper is a genius move. They make it look so simple, and they can change. They can change from a 3-4-3 to a 3-5-2, and he’s carrying on his own way, which is really really brilliant.

“He’s gradually, gradually grown into it. I’ve been lucky enough to watch them twice this season, and to be in amongst that Wolverhampton Wanderers crowd is special. They know they’re in a really good moment of energy.

“They’ll build a statue of him I think.”

OPINION

Wolves are, without a shadow of a doubt, the most exciting team in the Premier League in terms of what they could go on to achieve in the next couple of seasons. The Midlands club have made a storming return to life in the top flight and are going about their business with a style and panache that is truly remarkable for a newly promoted side. It’s not unreasonable to suggest that they could achieve European football this seasons, and while that might be a massive overstretch for many teams who have just made the leap into the top tier, you get the feeling that Wolves have a little bit more about them and would be well suited to that transition. Only time will tell as to how far they can go under Nuno, but of they continue to perform at the level they are, and if they continue to receive the kind of financial backing they have been lucky enough to have recently, they could go a long, long way.
