Burnley ace Aaron Lennon could be tempted to return to Elland Road in the summer, with Leeds United plotting a summer swoop to re-sign their former attacker, according to the Sun.

The newspaper has claimed that Marcelo Bielsa is “compiling background checks” on the 31-year-old, who will enter the final year of his contract in the summer.

Lennon has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Burnley this season, but he could spend the rest of the campaign on the sidelines with a serious knee injury he sustained in December.

Good move for Leeds?

It depends on what league Leeds will be in next season.

Lennon would be a classy addition in the Championship if the Whites fail to win promotion, but if they do return to the Premier League this term then they should look at better players than the ex-England international.

The 31-year-old winger did help Burnley qualify for the Europa League last season, but he is not the player that he once was and his latest injury blow could mean that he might struggle to get into a Premier League starting line-up.

Likely to happen?

It’s way too soon to say for sure whether or not Lennon will return to Elland Road.

Many fans will surely want to see their youth academy product back his comeback, but too many things could happen between now and the end of the season that puts this potential deal in doubt.

The January window has only just closed as well, so it’s unlikely that Bielsa would be instantly on the look-out for new signings when that is Victor Orta’s job.
