Many Wolves fans will be thrilled over talkSPORT broadcaster Adrian Durham’s claim that there are 29 players more deserving of winning the Player of the Year award than Tottenham attacker Heung-Min Son.

The reasons why Wolves supporters will be happy by the broadcaster’s bold claim is the fact that five members of their club’s first-team make the list of those he believes should be ahead of Son in the race for POTY.

Durham seemed pretty aggrieved by the idea that some were calling for Son to be contender for Player of the Season following him scoring the winning goal against Newcastle United on Saturday.

“I do like Heung-Min Son as a player, he has improved enormously,” said Durham on talkSPORT, as quoted by the radio channel’s official website.

“However, up to December he had scored one Premier League goal and in that run Spurs lost four Premier League games, including against Man City and Liverpool – games which could prove crucial come the end of the season.

“He’s just missed three weeks putting country before club and he was so bad at Arsenal, in a massive game, that he was dragged off by Mauricio Pochettino.

“Remember we’re talking about a potential player of the season, the whole season. This doesn’t make him a bad player, but we’re talking about the Premier League’s best player this season.”

It’s rather bold of Durham to be so dismissive of the idea Son could win Player of the Year as by all accounts he has been very impressive and a key reason why the London club are still in the race for the Premier League title.

The 26-year-old has scored 10 goals, and assisted six, in his 19 league appearances so far, and while he wasn’t putting the ball in the back of the net regularly at the start season, he wasn’t actually playing bad by any account.

Also for Durham to argue Son should be discounted because he put his country before his club to go to the Asian Cup in January is just ridiculous as a player should feel it’s a privilege to represent their nation and turn up for them when they have games.

The 26-year-old attacker has clearly been a fantastic player in the Premier League, worthy of POTY mention at least, so it’s rather bold for Durham to list 29 players, the list can be seen here, that are more deserving.

However Wolves fans won’t mind though, seeing as he lists Matt Doherty, Conor Coady, Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez and Joao Moutinho among this group.

Wolves supporters will like that these talented players are getting their own mentions about POTY and will no doubt be aware what a huge compliment it is for a broadcaster to rank them ahead of such an in-form sensation like Son.

While even Wolves fans may not rank these players above Son, they will no doubt be thrilled that their club’s players are getting in the conversation by at least someone in regards to Player of the Year accolade.
