Both are players who have often divided the opinions of fans, but Samir Nasri and Robert Snodgrass are players who have progressed into quite the talents.
Snodgrass was exiled last season after being sent out on loan to Aston Villa, while Nasri only arrived at the Hammers in January after spending a long period unable to play football due to a suspension.
The duo are now firmly amongst the mix at West Ham, but there have been a number of occasions since Nasri was signed that Snodgrass has been resigned to the bench.
The Scotsman will no doubt loathe doing this, especially after getting his career back on track after some stellar displays at the start of the season.
However, his first team fears may have been put to bed – for the Liverpool clash on Monday, that is – as Claret and Hugh have reported that Nasri is expected to miss the fixture after picking up a knock recently.
It’s bad news for Nasri as after spending a large chunk of time not playing football before joining the Hammers, it’s a frustrating blow to be stuck on the sidelines.
This will be the ideal time for Snodgrass to shine and convince Pellegrini that he is worthy of a first team place, not the 31-year-old.
He will definitely be counting his lucky stars and eager to seize his chance to shine, as there is no doubt he will regain his place in the starting XI as a result.
If he makes the desired impact against the Reds – such as contributing towards the scoresheet or providing an assist if he starts – then Pellegrini would be mad to drop him for their next match.
Nasri will no doubt be on tenderhooks if the Scottish playmaker starts, as it means he could be resigned to the sidelines once again after facing such a long period out of action.
The ex-Arsenal ace is not the full West Ham package just yet, whilst Snodgrass as established himself as a top-quality player capable of making a great impact.
Either way, this is news that will have Snodgrass eager to seize an opportunity to impress.
