COMMENTARY
Wow, a large number of Tottenham fans on social media didn’t hold back when delivering their verdict on Christian Eriksen’s performance against Newcastle United on Saturday. Several furiously ripped the attacking midfielder apart with one claiming he looked tired, while another even compared his form to that of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil. When you consider how badly Ozil is struggling at the Gunners and Spurs’ bitter rivalry with the club, it was a savage comparison to make. More shockingly in amongst the fans who described Eriksen as overrated, one claimed he’d be happy to see the back of him in the summer. While the the 26-year-old did struggle to deliver the goods against the Magpies in the 1-0 win over them, he has regularly shone bright for the club. Eriksen is one of the best players that Tottenham have on their books and while he did have a bad day at the office against Rafa Benitez’s side, there is no need for people to be happy over the thought that he may one day soon leave.

Eriksen gone missing today.
Son needs to release the ball quicker. Too much football in tiny compact areas. Pull the trigger! And follow it up!— Graham Berry (@Mockney) February 2, 2019
Moura trying to burst through, doesn't genuinely get past his man and runs the ball out of play.
Not been impressed with Eriksen today – all too much walking pace. He should be the heart beat, the metronome, and when things are tangled he should be like the Gordion knot fellow…— Camden New Journal (@SpursLocal) February 2, 2019

Eriksen has to bloody shape up and fast if we’re to get anything from this game. He’s played more like ozil this last two weeks

Eriksen is so bad at set pieces. 9 out of 10 times he can’t even get the ball over the first player ?

I think Eriksen has been immensely frustrating to watch so far

Free kick just before half time. Dangerous position. Guess where Eriksen puts it? Straight on the head of the 1st man. Eriksen is so so so overrated by Spurs fans. He isn’t as good as u think he is. Far to many of these wishy washy performances. Does my nut in #thfc #coys

Eriksen such an overrated player. Happy to see the back of him in the summer. Winks will improve dramatically without Eriksen there.
