West Ham United midfielder Carlos Sanchez is set to make his long-awaited comeback from injury next month, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the Colombian international is currently in the midst of his recovery from a knee injury that has seen him sidelined for most of the season.

The summer signing hasn’t played for Manuel Pellegrini’s team since facing Macclesfield Town in the Carabao Cup towards the end of September.

Now it appears as if he will be returning to first team action in March.

OPINION

This is good news for West Ham… kind of. The team have had problems in central midfield this season, there’s no doubt about that, but is a 33-year-old Sanchez the man to fix them? It’s very unlikely. It’s not like he was lighting things up before he went down injured in September. Still, he is a veteran player who can come in and strengthen the team’s spine late on in games. He has Premier League experience and is capable of doing a similar job to Pedro Obiang, for what that’s worth. Still, it will be good to have another body in amongst the squad after a season which has been ravaged by injuries. So Pellegrini will be getting another player who he can plug in and who will do a job for them but, really, not much more than that. It always helps to have more players down the stretch, so hopefully this will help the Hammers finish the campaign strongly.
