Ian Wright risked upsetting Arsenal fans as he heaped praise on Tottenham after their 3-0 win against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

The former Arsenal player couldn’t help himself after watching his north London bitter rivals smash the best team in the Bundesliga this season 3-0.

However, he must have through better of it a few minutes later, deleting the tweet.

Wright posted the meme of Leonardo DiCaprio applauding with just the one word underneath: “Spurs”.

OPINION

As a footballer, Ian Wright was Arsenal through and through. As a pundit and a football fan he appreciates good football wherever he sees it. And that goes for Tottenham too. Unfortunately, many Arsenal fans don’t share his enthusiasm for the greatest game in the world, if it comes from their north London rivals. Wright praised Tottenham in the Champions League earlier in the season, after they secured their unlikely passage through to the knockout stages, and he was slammed by loyal Arsenal fans. Perhaps this was on his mind when he deleted his tweet tonight, but credit where credit’s due. Tottenham were absolutely phenomenal tonight, deserved their win, and deserved their applause from one of the greatest Arsenal players of all time. Arsenal get their go on Thursday night and must be wondering what’s happened to the natural order of things in north London.
