Tottenham are set to hold two test events at their new stadium on March 16 and 23 ahead of a potential full opening, according to Evening Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick.

Spurs do not have any first-team fixtures between March 9-31 and he claims they could hold the test events on consecutive Saturdays.

The Standard claims that the first event will likely be for 20,000-30,000 people while the second has to be close to the capacity of 62,062.

One of the events is reported to be likely an academy match or possibly an open training session. Plans to hold a legends game against Bayern Munich have been discussed but are looking less likely now.

If both of these events are a success it could mean that Tottenham’s first full fixture in the new stadium is against Brighton on April 6, or Huddersfield the following week if that fixture is rearranged fir the FA Cup.

OPINION

These could be make-or-break events for Tottenham getting into their new stadium this season. If they’re successful then they’ll be able to play out the rest of their games in their new home. And the second event, at a near capacity of 62,000, should be electric. Spurs fans have every right to get excited about the prospect of this. If the test events aren’t a success though, they might well have to shelve plans to move until next season, which might not be a bad thing. Tottenham are still in contention for the biggest of prizes this season in both the Champions League and the Premier League and there has to be a fear that moving to a new stadium for a the last few games will seriously jeopardise these. It could take Tottenham time to bed down in a new stadium. However, fans are utterly sick of going to Wembley and both Poch and Daniel Levy seem adamant they want to move as soon as possible.
