Tottenham are planning a £50 million raid for “midfield sensation” David Brooks from Premier League rivals Bournemouth, according to the Mirror.

Spurs were understood to be interested in the 20-year-old over the summer, but were beaten to his signature by the Cherries, who snapped him up from Sheffield United in an £11.5 million deal.

The Mirror suggests that the title challengers will rekindle their interest in the Welsh international, who has nine caps for his country, over the summer.

Good move for Tottenham?

Yes. Brooks has flourished this season, and while he might have been expecting to play a bit part role for the Cherries, he has instead established himself as one of their most dangerous players, and a real contender for young player of the year. £50 million will be a frustrating amount of money to fork out for a player who cost just a fraction of that last summer, but in the current market, and with the potential he has, there’s no reason why Bournemouth shouldn’t demand such a fee for their Welsh starlet.

Likely to happen?

How likely is it that Spurs sign anybody? You would assume that after two barren windows they will have to invest next summer, and Brooks fits the mould of a typical Tottenham signing perfectly. Young, agile, and destined for the top, he would be a great fit at Spurs, and if the club is to spend £50 million on a player, it is just as likely to be him as anybody else.
