Sir Kenny Dalglish has been drooling over Scott Brown after the Celtic captain signed a new deal with the club earlier this week.

Brown, 33, was due to leave Parkhead at the end of this season with his old contract expiring in the summer and widespread reports of interest from Australia.

However it was confirmed on Thursday that the midfielder agreed to extend his agreement by two years, meaning that he could now captain the Bhoys to 10 Scottish Premiership titles in a row.

Celtic legend Dalglish has been offering glowing praise of Brown since his decision to extend his deal in Glasgow, but he admits that there has been criticism aimed at him for recent performances.

“In Brown’s time playing under Brendan Rodgers, I’ve been fulsome in my praise of the Parkhead skipper,” Dalglish said on the Sunday Post website.

“The level of consistency he has shown over 80 or 90 competitive games has been quite remarkable.

“He’s been an absolute standout.

“Sure, I’m aware one or two supporters feel he hasn’t hit the same heights in the past six months and that may well be a fair assessment.

“But I would never write this man off.”

OPINION

Celtic fans should feel very lucky to have had a player like Brown. As Dalglish says, over the years he has been a superb leader and his consistency levels are second to none. He was the Hoops’ best player last season but injuries have hampered him slightly this campaign and he is taking some time to get back to his best after missing most of October and November. Rodgers continues to name Brown in his starting line-up and the fact that he has been tied down for another two years means that the Celtic boss wants him to captain the club to 10 in a row. Celtic fans will now be praying that Rodgers can also stay on board for the rest of that run with reports continually linking him with a return to the Premier League. The Hoops have hit a bit of a rough patch this season and maybe let some of their rivals get closer to them than they would have wanted. However their recent run of results proves that the domestic treble is likely to be wrapped up for a third year in a row.
