Moussa Sissoko heaped praise on Tottenham teammate Harry Winks and even shared that the midfielder reminded him a little bit of Steven Gerrard.

Sissoko revealed that he thought Winks had improved a lot and even tipped him to become a big player if he continued progressing.

The Spurs central midfielder also highlighted Winks’ form in the last few months and shared that it was good to have him at the club.

“Harry, since I came here, he’s improved a lot and I like the style he plays,” Sissoko told talkSPORT.

“He reminds me a little bit of Steven Gerrard.

“If he keeps on going that way he will become a big, big player.

“For a few months he’s been doing well, doing a great job. You can see he is playing with confidence.

“He’s got good skills, good abilities and it’s good to have him with us.”

OPINION

While Winks has been rightly praised by many in the last few months after continuing to submit impressive performances for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, Sissoko comparing him to Gerrard will no doubt have him blushing. The former Liverpool midfielder was seen as one of the Premier League’s best players for several seasons and it’s a huge compliment for anyone to be compared to the player as a result. While Sissoko waters down the compliment by saying he only reminds him a little bit, it will still be a comparison that will have Spurs supporters’ tongues wagging. At the age of 23-years-old, Winks is more than capable of improving in order to have a successful career like Gerrard, the only thing working against him currently is his injury record. The Spurs midfielder spent a notable portion of his 2017/18 campaign battling an ankle injury and seemed to take time to truly get over it. While Winks has successfully featured 35 times for his side this season, there’s is still that worrying doubt in your mind that injuries could come back to haunt him. Hopefully this isn’t the case as just like Sissoko stated if Winks continues to progress in the way that he is, he’ll have a huge future in the game.
