Robbie Savage suggested that Tottenham attacker Harry Kane was worth somewhere between £150m and £200m in today’s transfer market.

The pundit estimated the Spurs forward’s price when telling a Liverpool fan that their idea to only allow teams to spend £300million on improving their squad in the transfer market was nonsense.

“That’s nonsense, so if you look at the top players in the world now and the way money is, so for instance, say you’re Liverpool, just say hypothetically, Harry Kane in today’s transfer market would cost between £150 and £200million I would suggest,” said Savage on Saturday’s BBC 606, which can be heard again on listen again (49:02).

Kane returned from injury to feature for Mauricio Pochettino’s side on Saturday against Burnley and despite scoring, he was unable to be on the wining side as Sean Dyche’s team won 2-1.

OPINION

While a fee in the region of £150m-200m does sound like a lot of money, would it really be a surprise if Kane actually attracted bids of a higher valuation? The 25-year-old forward has proven for multiple seasons that he is a lethal and clinical finisher, and those sort of players carry a high price due to being hard to find. However given that Kane is incredibly important to Spurs and is contracted to the club until 2024, you feel even if a side threw lots of money at the London club, they wouldn’t let him go. The 25-year-old has scored an impressive 21 goals, while registering six assists, in his 32 outings this season and has been a key factor in why Spurs are still challenging for trophies at this stage of the season. While Pochettino side’s bid to win the Premier League this season took a huge blow by losing to Burnely, at the end of the day it was just impressive that they were a contender after not signing any players in the last two transfer windows. Also Spurs fans shouldn’t be too glum as they look in a good position when it comes to making the Champions League quarter finals.
