Tottenham must prepare to deal with the rumour mill that will likely go into overdrive over Mauricio Pochettino’s future after he was spotted having dinner with David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane.
The Sun reported on Pochettino having dinner with the two Real Madrid associated figures and shared pictures of the public sighting of the Spurs manager simply enjoying his time off.
The national newspaper poured fuel on the fire regarding the potential harmless dinner between the trio by saying how it will send the rumour mill into meltdown and stir the pot in the process.
The Sun do this by pointing out in their report that not only has Pochettino been linked to the Real Madrid job previously, Beckham as well as Zidane are known to be on good terms with Madrid’s president Florentino Perez.
While some Spurs fans will no doubt feel confident that Mauricio Pochettino isn’t going anywhere, many will panic over this reported sighting as the amount of stirring the pot the media will do will likely increase their fear.
Also managing Real Madrid has always been known to be an enticing prospect that few of capable of resisting and that will play on Spurs fans’ mind despite this meeting potentially just being dinner between friends and nothing to do with the Spanish giants.
It’s not helped that The Telegraph previously reported that Spurs believe Real Madrid are a greater threat than Manchester United when it comes to holding onto Pochettino.
This is because the newspaper point out that Spurs hold a realistic fear that their manager could be tempted to return to Spain to continue his managerial career as it could be too tempting to resist.
Also with Spurs being out of two winnable tournaments, the League Cup and the FA Cup, fans at this point may feel that Pochettino may move on as his odds of winning silverware aren’t looking good as it stands especially with no signings made in January.
With all this in mind many Spurs fans are likely to panic over this sighting, so Spurs must prepare themselves to quieten the rumour mill once again before it potentially proves to be a distraction.
