Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has delivered an exciting update on the potential timeline for midfielder Dele Alli’s return from injury.

The 22-year-old has been out of action since picking up an knock against Fulham in the Premier League at the end of January, but Pochettino has confirmed that he could return soon.

“He’s good. We’re happy,” he said at his pre match press conference, as per journalist Alasdair Gold’s personal Twitter account. “This muscle injury is different.

“He’s in the last part of his recovery. Difficult to know, maybe one week, 10 days, two weeks. In the last period, a key part of his recovery. We’ll see because we’re going to assess him day by day.”

OPINION

This is excellent news for Tottenham. It was unknown how long Alli would be out for having picked up that injury against Fulham, but the fact that he’s in the final stage of his recovery is terrific news for Spurs supporters everywhere. He is a massive part of Pochettino’s team, and his goalscoring and creativity cannot quite be replicated by any other midfielders at the club. If he returns within a week and two weeks then he’ll be back in time for the huge Champions League second leg with Borussia Dortmund, and obviously down the stretch for the remainder of the season as well. With the club assessing him every day, as Pochettino says, there’s even a chance that he could return ahead of schedule. The club have some huge games coming up so if Alli makes a speedy recovery then he’ll give his manager a massive boost for those clashes.
