Tam McManus boldly claimed that Mauricio Pochettino was the best pound for pound manager in England and was possibly the best one in Europe.

The BBC pundit, who frequently appears on the broadcaster’s show Sportsound, took to his personal Twitter account after Spurs beat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 in order to heap praise on the Spurs boss.

McManus while making the claim about where Pochettino ranked among the managers in England, went on to suggest that the Argentinian was working miracles at the London club as he had built his team on peanuts.

“What is Pochettino’s net spend since he arrived at Spurs? He’s working miracles at that club. What a manager they are an outstanding side for what has been spent in comparison to Man City & Liverpool,” tweeted McManus.

“Aye thought it would be low but that’s absolutely incredible. Undoubtedly pound for pound the best manager in England and possibly Europe.

“Did they buy Kane? Winks? Pochettino has built a team on peanuts not bought one. Your not getting it are you.”

OPINION

After Spurs casually brushed Dortmund aside on Wednesday in the first leg of their Champions League clash, it’s no surprise that McManus is draping Pochettino in praise. However it’s still very bold of him to call the Spurs boss effectively the best in England when the likes of Pep Guardiola are managing in the country. While Pochettino hasn’t had the transfer budget like Guardiola has been able to utilise at Manchester City, that still doesn’t mean he isn’t the best boss in the division. Also while Spurs haven’t signed anyone in the last transfer windows, he isn’t the only manager in the Premier League defying the odds while working on a restricted budget. Just see the job Rafa Benitez is doing with Newcastle United at St James Park currently, also the Spaniard has achieved great success prior to the Magpies and racked up many winners medals to showcase. McManus may be right to rave about Pochettino after Spurs’ latest impressive win, but you feel he may have gone a little too far on this occasion.
