Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente has revealed he would love to commit to a new contract in north London but admitted he and his agent would listen to any offers that came from elsewhere.

The Spanish international, with 24 caps for his country, is out of contract at the end of the current campaign but rather than cash in on his sale in January, Spurs kept him on board as he runs towards the expiration date of his deal.

Speaking of his future, Llorente said he would be “delighted” if he could agree new terms with the Lilywhites but insisted that he is open to leaving the club too, welcoming any calls for his capture.

He was quoted on the live blog on Football.London (16/02) as saying: “If I renew for a year, I am delighted, the project is exciting here at Tottenham, but we will be attentive to any call that may come.”

Opinion

No wonder Llorente would be thrilled to stay another season or two at Tottenham – he hardly has to do anything to pick up his pay cheque for most of the season. It is only now that Harry Kane is out injured that he is seeing more game time and even then he is being left on the bench as an impact substitute. There is just no way that the Spanish striker is going to be handed a new deal in north London and he can more or less focus on sealing himself a new club come the end of the season. He has been a willing servant to the club and it cannot have been easy knowing he would not get much, if any, game time week on week with Kane leading the line. Spurs needed someone to act as backup and while he could have done a job at another Premier League or European side as a first choice hitman, he was willing to take a back seat at Spurs. he will not go down in history with the Lilywhites but he has done what was asked of him – which to be fair was not exactly a lot.
