Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he would take inspiration from Tottenham when working out how to beat Man United on Sunday.

This comes as a surprise after United beat Spurs 1-0 in the Premier league in January – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sixth win in a row since taking over from Jose Mourinho.

Talking in his pre-match press conference, the Liverpool manager was asked about how he would tackle a resurgent United side and whether PSG would provide him with the blueprint.

PSG are the only team to beat United under Solskjaer but Klopp was quick to praise Tottenham for the way the played United, despite losing the game 1-0.

“Results wise, yes PSG showed,” Klopp said, “but Tottenham played a pretty good game against them too.”

Klopp was quoted by David Maddock from the Mirror on Friday morning.

OPINION

Klopp has got this bang on. The history books will show that Man United beat Tottenham to nil but if you watched the game you know it could and probably should have been a very different result. Tottenham had 21 shots to United’s 13, and 11 on target to United’s eight. Tottenham enjoyed 62% possession and completed 567 passes to United’s 363. Three points against United would have meant that Tottenham were bang in the Premier League title race. As it is, a win against Burnley with Liverpool losing to United would still leave the title in Tottenham’s hands. If they won the rest of their games this season – admittedly a big ask – they would lift the Premier League title and that would have to go down as one of the biggest achievements of all time in the UK game when you take into account the City and Liverpool sides. Klopp is obviously a big fan of Tottenham and the way they’re playing football at the moment, and he obviously hasn’t written them out of the race to the Premier League title.
