Paul Ince claimed that Tottenham have to be considered genuine contenders for the Premier League title even if everyone was talking about Liverpool and Manchester City instead of them.

The former Liverpool midfielder shared that while no one was really talking about Spurs with them sitting quietly, Ince refused to rule them out of the race for the league title.

Ince in his verdict on Spurs’ chances of winning the Premier League title this season, did highlight how Mauricio Pochettino’s side were still racking up points without either Dele Alli or Harry Kane to call upon.

“Got to (are they genuine contenders) they’re just sitting there quietly picking up points without Kane and without Alli and they’ve got a tough one at Leicester but if they keep winning games, Kane should be back soon so should Alli, then everyone’s talking about Liverpool and City with no one really talking about Tottenham, so you never know,” said Ince on BBC One’s Football Focus, as seen in a clip uploaded to the broadcaster’s  Twitter account.

OPINION

Tottenham fans will appreciate Ince’s verdict on their club’s chance in the Premier League title race as he believes they are genuine contenders. It’s fair to say that when you just about think the London club have blown their chances, events go in their favour. With Spurs set to play both Manchester City and Liverpool before the season ends, they really can control their own future and perhaps put themselves in a position where they could lift the Premier League title. It would be quite a surprise if Spurs won the league title, as just like Ince said everyone is focused on Liverpool and Manchester City, but it would feel like a special moment. A lot has been said, particularly when Spurs exited the FA Cup and League Cup this season, about Pochettino not adding trophies to the cabinet at Tottenham, but if he lifted the league title then a lot of pundits would be backtracking on their words.
