Harry Redknapp heaped praise on Lucas Moura after his performance against Borussia Dortmund in the 3-0 Champions League win on Wednesday night.

It was a fine performance all round from Tottenham, who coped with a confident Dortmund side in the first-half, before dispatching them clinically in the second.

The score was 0-0 at half-time but Lucas Moura almost gave his side the lead with a fantastic volley in the first-half.

He controlled the ball and then put it just wide with the goal gaping.

It got Redknapp talking at half-time, with the former Spurs manager saying it would have been the “goal of the season” if it had gone in.

“What technique”, Redknapp said on the BT Sport live coverage of the game (BT Sport, Wednesday, 7pm).

“What a volley. It would have been one of the goals of the season if it had gone in. Superb.”

OPINION

Son Heung-min was the man who go thtings going again for Tottenham but he wasn’t the only fantastic Spurs player on the pitch tonight. Jan Vertonghen was brilliant in the unfamiliar position of left-back and Hugo Lloris was immense in the Tottenham goal. Lucas Moura also showed flashes of why, on his day, he’s simply unplayable. The problem is that recently he hasn’t been consistent enough but looked near back to his best at Wembley tonight. It’s a real shame that Lucas didn’t finish the chance in the first-half. It would have been a goal worthy of the occasion and Moura did almost everything right. The clean sheet tonight is also massive and Tottenham have an unbelievable chance of progressing now. Harry Kane could be back for the second-leg as well and Spurs already have one foot in the draw for the Champions League quarter-finals. Their only enemy now is complacency but we’re sure Pochettino will guard them agains that.
