Robbie Savage and Kirsty Gallacher clashed when a Tottenham fan called up BBC 606 to suggest that Mauricio Pochettino’s time was up at the club.

The former Premier League player couldn’t believe his ears and pointed out why Spurs fans should be thrilled with how the key figure is guiding their club in the right direction.

“All of sudden Spurs fans have got a glimmer of winning stuff (fan argued had that three years ago) under Poch, before that Harry, was it Harry they got you in the top four?” said Savage on BBC 606 (Radio 5 Live, Saturday February 23rd, 20:11).

“Let’s be fair when was the last time you thought as a Spurs fan that you were challenging for the Premier League and you’re thinking we can be in the Champions League quarter final.”

This prompted the Spurs fan to laugh before saying it was under Pochettino, this saw Savage snap back to say “but you said he has run his course” which saw the supporter shout back “he has run his course.”

Savage then claimed Gallacher has said the same, which she denied as she just said she understood the fan’s viewpoint and emphasised with him before pointing out Pochettino owed referee Mike Dean an apology.

“For goodness sake Robbie, the thing is you have to absolutely feel for the fans and I’m sorry Tom (Spurs fan) that it’s going to be a miserable night for you,” added Gallacher before Savage once again claimed he couldn’t believe people wanted Pochettino out.

OPINION

Gallacher was only trying to emphasise with a frustrated Spurs fan, who may not want Pochettino out after a good night’s sleep, and got stitched up by Savage in the process. The former Sky Sports News presenter tried to make it clear she didn’t think time was up for the Spurs manager after his side lost 2-1 to Burnley, but Savage wasn’t having any of it. In fairness it is absurd for anyone to question Pochettino’s job in the slightest as he has achieved the unthinkable at Spurs this season. The manager has made his side’s contenders for the Premier League title without having new players arrive in the last two transfer windows, and has seen them look in a good position to reach the Champions League quarter final. You feel the Spurs fan calling in was just frustrated after witnessing his side lose to Burnley and it’s easy to see why that was the case. Pochettino’s side bid for the Premier League title looks effectively over now and that supporter was likely disappointed as a result. While Tottenham can still mathematically top the table, they are relying on Manchester City and Liverpool to uncharacteristically drop the ball.
