Tottenham defender Juan Foyth has spoken out on reports linking him with a potential move to Leeds United back over the January window by insisting he does not know if the rumours were true or not.

The centre back was linked by a number of outlets, including AS, with a switch to join fellow Argentine Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road over the winter market but he ended up remaining in north London as backup to the starting XI.

When probed over the reported move to join the Whites in the Championship, 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) Foyth admitted he did not know anything of it and that he just follows his agent’s advice and guidance for his career.

He told Football.London: “I was never told anything about that so I don’t know whether it was actually true or not.

“I have to guide myself on what my agent says. Despite everything I started the season really wanting and looking forward to being here, despite not having a position [in the Champions League squad] and I just wanted to learn day by day.”

Opinion

Foyth would have been an outstanding signing for Leeds in the Championship but injuries and the like led to him picking up some decent game time over the winter period. However, he has been relegated back to someone who sits on the bench and features rarely and so while things might have looked positive heading into January, the player himself might have enjoyed dropping down a league to link up with Bielsa in the hunt for the second tier title. Considering that Pochettino considers himself a disciple of his fellow countryman at Elland Road, it would come as no surprise to see Leeds try and raid north London for some of their fringe talent in the future, offering the opportunity not only of first team action but to learn under one of the most revered coaches in all of world football. Could Foyth be lining up in a different team’s white kit next season? If Leeds are promoted, Foyth would be a seriously impressive capture.
