Christian Eriksen has rejected three different contract offers from Tottenham, according to a football insider.

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, football consultant Ian McGarry claim the Danish playmaker has snubbed a series of offers culminating in one worth £110,000-a-week.

“He has 17 months left on his contract and has already rejected three different contract upgrade offers from Tottenham,” McGarry said. “He’s already turned down £110,000 [a week] from Tottenham. I think he’d be looking at between £150,000 and £200,000 [a week], which in the current market I’d say he is worth every penny.”

OPINION

This is a major blow to Spurs. There surely isn’t a supporter of the club who doesn’t want the great Dane to commit to a new long-term contract. Eriksen’s technical ability and inventiveness make him irreplaceable, and he would walk into every team in the Premier League. With his current deal expiring in the summer of 2020, it appears more and more likely he will leave at the end of the current season if the north Londoners can’t make him the offer he wants. Whether this is down to the actual sum of the offers, and the finances, only Eriksen and his camp will know, but he is at an age – 26 – when his earning potential is at its greatest, and there is no doubt plenty of elite clubs will be falling over themselves to get him if his transfer value is somewhere around the £60million mark. It must be a huge concern to Spurs that Eriksen has yet to put pen to paper on an extension. If the stalemate continues, he is surely heading out of the exit door.
