Tottenham have been hit with a major fitness blow with the news that Danny Rose is a doubt for Saturday’s game against Burnley.

He has been taken ill and will be assessed before the match on Saturday lunchtime.

Dele Alli is still out, while Ben Davies and Harry Kane are back in training and could feature.

The regular fitness update from Tottenham was reported by Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold ahead of the pre-match press conference on Thursday.

OPINION

Danny Rose was on the bench for the Champions League win against Dortmund last week, with Jan Vertonghen continuing to impress on the flanks. That’s where he played when he first joined Tottenham and he was proving it’s like riding a bicycle as he scored one and made another in the famous victory. He could reprise his role on Saturday, although Ben Davies could be available after resuming training. Ironically, although Davies is a recognised left-back, Tottenham fans would probably prefer to see Vertonghen carry on on the left if Rose is ruled out. He’s been brilliant recently while Davies has been a shadow of the player he was last season. The return of Harry Kane is the headline news though, although we don’t know yet if he’ll start or make the bench. Our guess is that Fernando Llorente will get one last chance to impress leading the line, before Kane comes off the bench to make an impact.
