Stan Collymore raved about Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino for his apology to Mike Dean and opted to slam Chelsea in the process.

The outspoken pundit claimed that the Spurs boss clearly oozed class and didn’t use the emotion of football as an excuse of why he had a very public exchange of words with Dean after the 2-1 loss to Burnley on Saturday.

Collymore highlighted how Pochettino dealt with the issues in front of him and pointed out that this was completely the opposite of how Spurs’ London rivals Chelsea were operating.

“Again, a man and a manager who oozes class. An understanding of the emotion of sport, but doesn’t use it as an excuse. Apologises rather than peddles ______ and obfuscates to “deal” with issues,” tweeted Collymore, via his verified Twitter account.

“The antithesis of Chelsea currently.”

OPINION

While Dean did appear to say something to anger Pochettino on Saturday, the manager has issued an apology and showcased his class in the process. It’s not a surprise that Collymore was impressed by this action by the Spurs manager, as who wouldn’t be? Pochettino showed that even though he was understandably upset after witnessing his side lose 2-1 to Burnley, which was a blow to their Premier League title ambitions, he’s not above holding his hands up. However the pundit was clearly motivated to heap praise on Pochettino in order to put Chelsea in a bad light. It’s easy to see where he is coming from though as there is nothing classy going on at the moment at Stamford Bridge. The scenes during the League Cup final against Manchester City where goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to be substituted were embarrassing for the club and suggested that it was another case of the inmates running the asylum as Maurizio Sarri seemed powerless.
