Newcastle United fans know their place. The Geordies want their side to do well, and they would love some kind of investment to help with those ambitions, but ultimately, they recognise that their side is a long way off being the power that it once was and that they have to be realistic in their optimism. That’s why most fans have taken a sceptical view of a report that has linked them to Hoffenheim striker Joelinton. According to Florian Plettenberg, journalist for German outlet Sport 1, the Magpies are readying a bid in the region of £52 million, and many Toon supporters are definitely seeing the funny side of the claim, suggesting it’s not going to happen. It’s fair to that they are justified in their disbelief after a period of less than promising spending under Mike Ashley, and it’s easy to see why the might be baulking at the suggestion that the owner is suddenly going to pull out over £50 million out of nowhere. The Toon fans will believe it when they see it, but for now, they will remain convinced that this is just another lifeless media rumour the likes of which they have been duped by too many times before. What a move it would be if it did come off though…
