Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has heard praise on new teammate Miguel Almiron, suggesting that the 24-year-old has impressed since joining from Atlanta United.

The Paraguayan international made his bow with a substitute appearance in Monday night’s 1-1 draw with Wolves, but has already impressed his English colleague.

As quoted in the Mirror, Hayden said: “He has been top drawer, especially coming from a foreign country and MLS, which is a completely different level.

“Even coming on, he was a bit of a livewire showing what he can do.

“He got tackled quite hard and when he got up I said, ‘Welcome to English football!’ — but he was smiling.

“You can see in his eyes he is really enjoying it and all the experiences. He will get better and better and I think he will be a great asset to Newcastle.”

OPINION

Although he was only on the pitch for around twenty minutes or so, Almiron will have gone a long way towards endearing himself to his new fans with his cameo against Wolves. He was energetic and positive from the get-go, and looked exactly like the kind of player that Newcastle have been missing. The Toon faithful aren’t asking for much, they just want a player who can get them out of their seats, who can excite them and take the game to an opposition, and in Almiron, it finally looks as if they have one. Obviously bigger tests lie ahead, and watching him charge around the field like Roadrunner on Monday gave the distinct impression of a man bursting at the seams with adrenaline, but if he continues in that vein, and keeps on racking up the minutes, it should be no time before the Geordies are raving over “Wor Miggy”.
