OPINION
Centre back Aymeric Laporte certainly didn’t produce his finest half of football in the opening period of Manchester City’s Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea on Sunday. The Frenchman is undoubtedly one of the very best central defenders in the Premier League, but he struggled in the early goings at Wembley. For someone who is up there technically with any defender on the planet, his passing was extremely off on Sunday. He repeatedly gave it away early on and it really took some time for him to get into a groove against Maurizio Sarri’s side. As one supporter said, he looked lost in the first half. He’s a tremendous player but he needs to do better after the break because he wasn’t good enough in the first half here. He wasn’t tested much defensively by a disciplined Chelsea side, but his distribution needs to be much better after a woeful first half on the ball.
