Michael Owen shared that he thought it was debatable whether Leicester City could lure Brendan Rodgers away from Celtic.

The former Premier League forward shared that even if the Foxes had made Rodgers their first-choice in their hunt for a new manager, they wouldn’t necessarily find it easy to get their man.

“Whether the Leicester board can prise the former Liverpool boss away from Parkhead – if he is indeed the club’s first-choice – is debatable,” wrote Owen in his Premier League predictions on BetVictor.

The Scottish Sun reported on Monday that Leicester City were ready to launch a £6million move to ensure Rodgers became their boss in the summer.

OPINION

Owen pours cold water over the idea that Leicester City would be an attractive job for Rodgers and it’s hard to see why. The Premier League club seem to have a promising amount of resources, have a squad filled with talented players and are likely to match Rodgers’ likely ambitions. While the Hoops would be a very hard club to leave, especially after the amount of success Rodgers has tasted there, you still feel like he’d be at least willing to hear the Premier League side out. If the Hoops manager has no interest, given the amount of reports that are linking him with the hotseat at the King Power, you feel he would publicly deny any desire to go there. However Rodgers rather wisely made some smartly worded remarks when asked about the Leicester job on Sunday. The Hoops boss stated that “my job is to concentrate on the football aspect”, as quoted by the BBC, which is the professional answer without taking his name out of the hat.
