You never want to urge a club to sack a manager, but you do feel that serious questions need to be asked of Everton manager Marco Silva after Saturday’s mauling against Wolves.

This season simply hasn’t gone as everyone at Goodison Park hoped it would, and the malaise around the club was summed up by the team’s 3-1 defeat to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

The Toffees really didn’t do anything offensively throughout the game, with Andre Gomes’s stunning strike coming out of the blue. There was no creativity and no desire to go and win the game from Silva’s players.

Former Premier League winner Chris Sutton delivered a devastating verdict on the match on his personal Twitter account, saying: “Wolves brilliant today… outclassed sorry Everton.”

He’s hit the nail on the head there. Sorry is exactly the right word to describe the Toffees’ performance on Saturday. Ultimately, even though it’s the players on the pitch, blame has to be apportioned to the manager. Silva doesn’t seem to have the answers to his side’s poor form and that’s the most worrying thing.

Everton are ninth in the Premier League table, but that doesn’t tell the whole story about how bad their campaign has been. This was a huge game in the battle for best of the rest and Everton absolutely failed to show up to the party.

The club waited months to try and bring Silva in and they put a lot into their pursuit of the former Watford boss, so they’ll be loath to admit they made a mistake by sacking him.

However, he’s not done well enough at the end of the day. There is so much talent in this Everton team and if the players aren’t performing to their potential then questions have to be asked of the manager.

You hate to say it but it looks like Silva’s on borrowed time at Goodison Park. His team’s performance on Saturday was, as Sutton said, sorry.
