Everton boss Marco Silva has said that duo Idrissa Gueye and Leighton Baines will need to be assessed to find out if they are fit enough for this weekend’s clash against Wolves.

Baines started the 1-0 win over Huddersfield on Tuesday while Gueye missed the clash amid all the speculation that was going on about his future at the club, and both players are set to face fitness tests to determine whether they can feature.

Centre-backs Yerry Mina and Phil Jagielka are both ruled out of Saturday’s fixture having both been absent for the game against the Terriers, as relayed by BBC Merseyside Sport on Twitter.

OPINION

The fact that Leighton Baines could potentially miss this game will be a major blow for the manager. With first choice left-back Lucas Digne ruled out having received a red card against Huddersfield, it remains to been seen who Silva will turn to deputise at left-back for him. This will certainly count against them if Baines does end up being ruled out, so he will no doubt be hoping and praying that the veteran defender is passed fit to play. Gueye missed the previous match due to a groin injury, but the fact that his inclusion remains in the balance will not be of much help to Silva either. That being said, Tom Davies put in quite the shift in his absence, so not all is lost if Gueye does end up being sidelined. Jagielka and Mina were absent for the last game so it is no surprise that they are ruled out of Saturday’s fixture.
