Everton’s struggles continued as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Watford on Saturday, and those struggles are epitomised by one player in particular.

That player is striker Cenk Tosun, who has seemed to have rode his luck in recent times under boss Marco Silva purely because the lack of attacking talent has left him with no choice.

On Saturday, it was evident that Tosun is not up to Premier League standard anymore, but what else can Silva do? There is always the possibility of chucking in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but it is safe to say that either option is not a completely reliable one.

However, Tosun has been given too many chances to count, and the end of the road is surely nigh if he continues churning out such abysmal performances – he had the chance to equalise for the Toffees in stoppage time, but even then his header was off target.

Silva has already experimented with Richarlison up front but this is a decision that has backfired on him, as has the decision to play the 27-year-old, and enough is surely enough.

Everton desperately need to sign a prolific centre-forward in the summer as this crisis cannot continue longer than it has to – and when they do potentially sign a player who can score goals regularly, Tosun will be out the door faster than you can say exit.

Tosun – who was signed in January 2018 when Sam Allardyce was in charge – is not showing any signs of improvement in the matches he has played in recently, which is why it is surely the end of the road for him come the end of the season.

He is hampering the team’s threat up front, and if he cannot capitalise on golden opportunities like he was presented with against Watford, then there is no hope left for him at Goodison Park.
