OPINION

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri endured another terrible night at the office in his team’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Monday night. The Blues started OK but faded fast after Ander Herrera opened the scoring for the visitors at Stamford Bridge. It must be desperately disappointing for the Chelsea fans to see their team bow out of the FA Cup with such a whimper on Monday. There is a real dilemma at the club these days because if Sarri is sacked then Chelsea are merely repeating the same patterns that they have practised religiously since Roman Abramovich took over. But if they continue as they’re doing then it just doesn’t seem like things are going to change under the Italian. He remains unbelievably committed to the 4-3-3 formation that he has used throughout his Blues tenure, while his repetitive substitutions beggar belief. Ross Barkley on for Mateo Kovacic or vice versa at around the hour mark, it’s a tale as old as time at Chelsea this campaign, and the fans are clearly sick of it.
