COMMENTARY
You could have been forgiven for forgetting that Carl Jenkinson was still on Arsenal’s books, but he reminded every Gunners supporter on Wednesday when he faced Bournemouth that was still at the club. The 27-year-old right-back was given a very rare opportunity to start for Arsenal and he looked determined to stake his claim. Jenkinson looked shaky in the opening minutes of the match and appear to need to shake off some rust, but from there on out, he was fantastic. The 27-year-old looked dependable at the back and constantly charged up and down the flanks, despite appearing to be a little lacking in match sharpness. Jenkinson’s passion was also on show and this no doubt saw him worm his way back into supporters’ hearts. While it was a surprise to see him play any part of the Gunner’s 5-1 win over Bournemouth, Unai Emery has to keep utilising the player from here on out until he gives him reason not to. With one fan below claiming that Jenkinson was playing for a new contract, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2020, it would be quite the turn around if he managed to stick around longer than this season.
