Rangers 17-year-old winger Joshua McPake has been pictured taking part in training alongside the first team ahead of the club’s clash with Dundee at Ibrox.

The club’s official website posted photos of the Gers stars preparing on Tuesday for the visit of their Premiership rivals on Wednesday evening and McPake, wearing the number 64 on his training gear, was snapped taking part alongside the senior squad.

The teenager, who has not appeared once for the first team during his fledgling career, is very much one for the future, and was an unused substitute for the reserves’ Challenge Cup defeat to Falkirk earlier this season.

Opinion

It seems as though Steven Gerrard is keeping a very close eye on the future stars of Rangers and how better to get a look at what the club’s youth system is producing than giving them a chance to impress in first team training. Unless there is a significant illness or injury plague that spreads around Rangers, McPake is not going to be making his debut for the club against Dundee or in the near future for that matter. There is just too much on the line for the manager to go throwing teenagers into the senior side right now and maybe once the season’s titles have been decided he can afford to give them a chance. Either way, the fact he is among the first team training sessions at just 17 bodes extremely well for the future – just do not expect to be seeing him light up Ibrox any time soon.
