West Bromwich Albion are leading the race to sign Crawley Town defender David Sesay, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper claim that there are a number of Championship clubs keen on the highly-rated 20-year-old after his performances as a full-back for the League Two club this season.

The Sun report that Baggies manager Darren Moore is keen on Sesay with him looking for a long-term option to play at right-back.

Good move for West Brom?

Yes.

According to the Sun’s report Sesay is only rated as being worth £350,000 and that is really cheap when you consider how inflated player valuations have become in the transfer market.

West Brom are also in need of signing a new right back as this season they haven’t had a clear cut first-choice option given that Matt Phillips as well as Tosin Adarabioyo and Mason Holgate have all been utilised in that position.

It’s also worth noting that Adarabioyo and Holgate are both only on loan at the club.

It is believed the Baggies have been tracking the 20-year-old, who can impressively play as both a left back and right back, since he made his first senior appearance for Crawley last year, so they have no doubt done enough research on him to be confident he can excel at a higher level.

Likely to happen?

There’s definitely a chance.

Sesay’s valuation makes him clearly in West Brom’s budget and given they’ve been tracking him for a year, then clearly this implies they’ve been convinced by his talents in order to stay interested.

The Sun believe that although Crawley wish to keep Sesay at the club in order to kick on next season, they could struggle to convinced him to stay if a bigger club shows interest.

Given that West Brom will be either playing Championship football or even in the Premier League next season, then they should be able to tempt the player to join them.

Also while there are other clubs keen on the highly-rated defender after he has featured 13 times in League Two this season, the Baggies are believed to lead the race, which means they have an advantage.
