OPINION
Nicolas Otamendi could not have wished for a worse night in Manchester City’s 3-2 win against Schalke in the Champions League. The centre-back gave away a controversial penalty and was booked for what was deemed to be a handball. Then in the second-half, with City still in the game, he found himself picking up a second yellow, which was idiotic to say the least. Otamendi has not had the best of seasons for Manchester City and has been in the bad books among fans for quite a while, and he has clearly done nothing to endear himself to some of the club’s supporters on Wednesday night with a shambolic display at the Veltins Arena. The 31-year-old is way too sloppy to be a centre-back for Man City and Pep Guardiola needs to look at improving on him in the summer transfer window. There is a reason why he has been in and out of the squad in the Premier League this season and that’s because he’s not good enough. Guardiola cannot take any chances in the Champions League from now on. Luckily Otamendi will be suspended for the home leg.
