OPINION
Joel Matip struggled in that first-half against Bayern Munich, with the Liverpool centre-back at the heart of a couple of a shaky moments among the defence. A number of Liverpool fans have slammed the 27-year-old for his display at half-time, which is understandable because he really needs to be doing better when a team like Bayern can punish you at any given chance. Allison and Matip were lucky that Bayern didn’t score after a mix-up between them early on. From then, Matip seemed hesitant, presumably rattled by that heart in mouth moment with Allison. Liverpool are definitely missing Virgil van Dijk, not just because he is a good centre-back but because of how he moves the ball out of the defence and kickstarts attacks. Matip cannot do that, which is probably why he has been on the end of a lot of criticism in the first 45 minutes of this Champions League showdown at Anfield.
