Davie Hay has slammed Odsonne Edouard for his inconsistent form for Celtic this season.

Edouard, 21, joined the Hoops on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, becoming Parkhead’s most expensive signing in the process after an initial loan spell in Glasgow.

He has scored 14 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions this season and ex-Celtic manager Hay has claimed that the Frenchman is yet to really find his stride in the green and white hoops.

“I think Edouard has blown hot and cold this season, although I would say that I think the boy is a quality striker. He doesn’t lead the line in the same way that Moussa Dembele did but he is quick and he has ability,” Hay said on the Glasgow Evening Times website.

“For me, he has to work on holding the ball up better. In that firsts leg, Celtic had no one to do that and Burke, whom I had a bit of sympathy for, was completely isolated.”

OPINION

Edouard is yet to really prove that he deserves the title of being Celtic’s record signing. Chris Sutton and John Hartson were both immense forwards for the Hoops but Edouard is so far yet to fully show that he was worth the £9million paid for him. Yes he has scored 14 goals, but that tally should really be a lot higher and there is a reason that Oliver Burke has been played out of his natural position up front – it’s because Edouard hasn’t been good enough. The ex-PSG striker has admittedly had his injury issues, but he has still only scored one goal in his last nine appearances across all competitions. Burke is rightly keeping Edouard on the bench at the moment and Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo will be adding pressure on his spot as well. Edouard needs to find his stride soon, otherwise he could find himself really struggling to get into that starting line-up.
