Everton are one of a clutch of teams interested in signing Crystal Palace right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but, after the latest report, the Toffees’ chances of bringing in the youngster are surely up in smoke.

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this week that European giants Bayern Munich had entered the hunt for the Eagles star, with Everton already joined by Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in declaring an interest in the player.

With those sorts of teams for company it is now nearly impossible to envision the 21-year-old ending up at Goodison Park. He is a top class talent and so the natural next step is to a top class team, not the stagnant mess that Marco Silva’s side currently represents.

The Mail’s report states that due to Wan-Bissaka’s age and ability he will likely cost anywhere between £30-40million, a cheap price to pay for someone who could potentially lock up the right back spot for the next decade plus.

With Seamus Coleman showing signs of age this campaign and Jonjoe Kenny not quite convincing as his successor, the Palace man would have been an absolutely perfect signing for the beleaguered Toffees.

However, now that Bayern have attached themselves to the growing ranks of Wan-Bissaka admirers, there’s virtually no way that he’ll become an Everton player. If he wants to stay in England then he has his pick of top clubs, while if he wants to replicate Jadon Sancho’s success abroad he can pick between Germany’s two best teams.

This is a big blow for Everton because Wan-Bissaka would be a great, and much-needed, addition to Silva’s team, but they just have to accept that this is where they are in the food chain at the moment.

The club must continue to pursue a right back to succeed Coleman, but it looks as if Wan-Bissaka won’t be the man to take up that mantle at Goodison Park.
