Tyrone Mings stated that he thought Aston Villa supporters were brilliant during the 2-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday after a fan claimed it was a toxic atmosphere at Villa Park.

The 25-year-old centre-back shared a picture of himself in front of Villans fans during their defeat to the Baggies on his personal Twitter account with a message urging everyone to stick together.

Given the picture feature several discontent faces, one Villans fan believed Mings was highlighting the negativity among the crowd and he quickly responded to clarify he didn’t mean anything of the sort.

“About time someone had the balls to say it Tyrone, its Toxic down there just look at their faces. Unfortunately the boo boys are the loudest.” tweeted the fan.

Mings tweeted back: “I thought the fans were brilliant mate, I think the photo represents everyone fighting for the same cause.”

OPINION

Given that the picture in question seems to be from the moment where the referee ruled against the Villans, it’s no surprise it’s filled with angry faces. However while Mings was quick to deny a toxic atmosphere among Villans supporters, they definitely don’t seem the happiest bunch at the moment. It’s no surprise they’re far from happy though as after losing to West Brom, their bid to perhaps reach the Championship play-offs this season looks deader than ever. Dean Smith’s side will have to go on a fantastic run of results to even give themselves a fighting chance of finishing in the top six. You wouldn’t back them to achieve that goal however, as against West Brom and even Brentford they were comfortably brushed aside. The only positive to take from this tweet is that Mings is a credit to the club currently. The 25-year-old may only be on loan from Bournemouth and may have only arrived in January, but it’s response is the best one he could have issued. Even if the defender thinks the atmosphere is toxic, there’s no point getting into it with fans after what was a disappointing loss to West Brom.
