Sun journalist Alan Nixon has said that Leeds loanee Lewie Coyle isn’t good enough for the Premier League, but might have a future at Elland Road if his side misses out on promotion.

Nixon was commenting on his personal Twitter account after a Leeds fan asked whether he would be moved on at the end of the season.

Nixon first replied saying he is a “Hard tackler. Comfy on ball. Not bad at all.”

However, when pressed, Nixon said, “If Leeds make the Prem? No. If they stay in the Championship? Might get a look-in. Will have a career in game.”

OPINION

Many Leeds fans wanted to see Lewie Coyle back at Elland Road in January, with the Leeds injury crisis in full swing over December. However, Marcelo Bielsa did not share the view and his loan was extended at league One Fleetwood. He’s impressed there and he’s a player who could make a good career at that level or possibly in the Championship. Like Nixon though, we can’t see him staying if Leeds make it up to the Premier League. The 23-year-old is a fan favourite after coming up through the youth ranks but there are going to have to be a few tough decisions made over players if Leeds do get promoted. Leeds’ current left-back Barry Douglas is a good case in point. He was one of the most impressive players for Wolves when they cantered to the Championship title last season, but he was not deemed good enough for the Premier League. He’ll be hoping that lightning doesn’t strike twice if he helps Leeds win promotion, but it’s fair to say he hasn’t been as good for Leeds as he was for Wolves last season. If Leeds get promoted every decision will be made to ensure they stay there, not through sentimentality.
